Time Elapsed Time Remaining - Pete Voelker
Time Elapsed Time Remaining explores the historic borderland between East and West.
Voelker recounts the project's origins during a period of fervent debate on borders and nationalism. In response to these renewed political divisions, he embarked on a transformative journey to the Baltics, seeking to better understand, document, and challenge the impact of conceptual divisions on identity. Voelker's travels through countries such as Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, and Turkey reveal the tangible remnants of shifting borders. His photographs capture a struggle for independence, the technological impacts of dividing lines, and an ever-present threat of occupation.
This first edition of 350 books is designed by the artist and seeks to capture the enigmatic nature of Europe's eastern border, through 115 striking photographs, symbolising cooperation amidst rising geopolitical conflicts and a resurgence of nationalism.
